Wyandotte Public Schools offers a continuum of
services that provide children ages zero to four with opportunities to
participate in early childhood programs and service. These programs
enable children to enter school with the skills, support, and
understanding of what is needed for them to progress and flourish. The
Michigan School Readiness Program matches a wide variety of services
with the needs of participating children. School readiness, a tem used frequently in the preschool and kindergarten setting, means that a child is ready to enter a social and educationally based environment. In other words, the child is ready to start the process of learning how to do things independently.
To do this, a child should have the ability to: learn and participate in structured situations, work in a co-operative learning environment, play with other children (wait his/her turn in line and so on). All skills listed about (along with many, many more) are taught in the classroom through developmental learning centers by highly qualified teachers with specialized training in early childhood. There are certain qualifying factors for your child to be eligible for the MSRP program. It is our goal to see that each child has a preschool program to attend. However, priority is given to those children who best fulfill the necessary qualifications. Wyandotte families meeting several risk factors may receive free tuition from the Michigan School Readiness Program. The funding for this program comes from the Michigan State Department of Education. For out-of-district families a tuition fee will be assessed for children attending the preschool programs. All students, MSRP and Tuition, are blended into each classroom location. Wyandotte residents must attend a screening appointment to determine eligibility. Because the MSRP program is a cooperative venture between home, school, and the community - all Wyandotte families are required to have two home visits per school year. These will be conducted by the classroom teachers.
